Aparently while I wasn't looking Apple dropped the whole "Apple supported" bit in Tiger (OS X 10.4) and iLife '06 (this may also work for iLife '05), so so far as I know, you should be able to use any DVD recorder - internal or external - with iDVD (and for playing or ripping DVDs or burning DVD-ROMs from the finder).
Do you mean Tiger (OS X 10.4.x) or Leopard (OS X 10.5).
Cause i dunno , i think Tiger ( OS X 10.5 ) does not exist.
PS i sure still need the hack on my iMac running 10.4.x & iLife 05 or my external LaCie DVDRW wont work in iDvD. It works fine in Finder & Disk Utility though. To view dvd movies on it i also had to hack the dvd player app from Apple
Posted by: Maccampus at June 6, 2006 12:55 AMYou're right - Tiger is 10.4, not 10.5. I've corrected that.
The sources I've consulted talked about iLife '06, not iLife '05. I haven't tried to burn a DVD from iLife '05 with the new burner yet. I'll post a followup here with the results from that.
The DVD player may not want to work with your external drive on your iMac for reasons having nothing to do with the "apple supported" bit. I did read one post on the apple support site that suggested that older iMacs were a special case, but I still believe that has nothing to do with the "Apple supported" firmware.
Hi. I'm wondering how you hack apple dvd player to work w/external firewire dvd drive in TIger. I had 10.3.9 panther before and i was able to get dvd player to play movie thru a hack involving copying some files using Pacifist and Os X install discs. However, when i do the same w/TIger, all i get is "invalid drive initialization error -70012" :(
Thanks,
